Melaina Haisfield
Melaina Haisfield, Attorney at Davant Law, specializes in litigation and transactional matters in maritime, real estate, aviation, and corporate law. She hails from Cheverly, Maryland, and holds a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, obtained in 2000. She received her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2003. Melaina is licensed to practice law in Florida, Maryland, Texas, and the District of Columbia.
Melaina began her career as an Assistant General Counsel at Merle Wood & Associates Luxury Yacht Brokers in 2007 and progressed through various positions at Florida law firms and elsewhere, mostly practicing maritime law. She spent almost four years working as General Counsel for Great Texas Foods before returning to maritime law, accepting a position at Lochner Law Firm, P.C. in Maryland prior to joining Davant Law.
Melaina always wanted to attend graduate school, and after taking several classes from a great professor in the Criminal Justice Department, she knew she wanted to go to law school. Her motivation to specialize in maritime law came from her experience working as a stewardess for a private yacht for a year after graduation. She loved being on the water and thought that maritime law would be a natural fit for her.
When she is not practicing law, Melaina loves spending time with her three rescue mutts, one of whom hails all the way from the Bahamas. Melaina was involved with a rescue organization during her time working in-house for Great Texas Foods in the Abacos, Bahamas, and after assisting with feeding, housing, and transporting pups back to Florida for various rescues, she couldn’t resist adopting one herself. Melaina also enjoys fitness and prioritizes running, biking, swimming, and doing Pilates in her spare time.
